#SxFunFact: stitches don’t actually fully dissolve. At least not outside of the body they dont.

Stitches are usually apart of any surgery but rarely are clients informed of what to expect from them, what theyre made of, or how to care for them.

#Dissolvablestitches are made from natural materials, such as processed #collagen (animal intestines), #silk and #hair, as well as some synthetic materials that the body can break down. This allows the body to dissolve the stitches over time. Usually, by the time the stitches are dissolved, the wound is completely healed.

The time it takes for #dissolvable or #absorbable stitches to disappear can vary. Most types should start to dissolve or fall out within a week or two, although it may be a few weeks before they disappear completely. Some may last for up to six months. After that, the stitches can be removed safely, and the wound can continue to heal without stitches in place. If the stitches are left in the skin for longer than is needed, they are more likely to leave a permanent scar.
